Government Accelerates Affordable Housing Push Across the State
The Maharashtra government has announced an ambitious plan to build 15 lakh new homes over the next year while ensuring that beneficiaries of various housing schemes continue receiving their financial installments on time. The announcement was made by Rural Development Minister Jaykumar Gore during a discussion in the Legislative Assembly.
The minister emphasized that the state remains committed to providing permanent housing for eligible families and assured lawmakers that there is no shortage of funds for ongoing housing projects.
Opposition Raises Concerns Over Delayed Housing Payments
The issue was brought before the Assembly after several legislators highlighted complaints from beneficiaries who had not received their scheduled payments. According to the lawmakers, delays in fund disbursement under schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and Ramai Awas Yojana had slowed or halted home construction in many areas.
MLA Sameer Kunawar raised the matter, supported by legislators including Nilesh Rane, Rahul Patil, Sudhir Mungantiwar, and Nana Patole. They urged the government to address payment delays and ensure that beneficiaries receive financial assistance without interruption.
Over 28 Lakh Beneficiaries Identified for Housing Support
Responding to the concerns, Minister Gore shared details of the state's housing progress. He said Maharashtra had been assigned a target of more than 29 lakh houses during the previous year.
According to the minister:
- 28.17 lakh beneficiaries were identified.
- Approvals were granted for 27.85 lakh houses.
- First installments were released for more than 26 lakh houses.
- Second installments reached over 17 lakh beneficiaries.
- Third installments were provided to more than 11 lakh beneficiaries.
These figures reflect the large-scale implementation of housing programs across rural and urban regions of Maharashtra.
Maharashtra Becomes First State to Complete Over 6 Lakh Homes in One Year
One of the biggest achievements highlighted by the minister was the completion of 6,05,596 houses under government housing programs.
Gore stated that Maharashtra has become the first state in India to complete more than six lakh homes within a single year under the housing initiative. This milestone demonstrates the state's focus on accelerating affordable housing development and improving living conditions for low-income families.
Housing Budget Receives Major Financial Boost
The state government has also significantly increased financial allocations for housing schemes to support future construction targets.
For the financial year 2025-26, Maharashtra received ₹5,290 crore for housing projects. The allocation increased sharply to ₹13,947 crore for 2026-27, providing substantial financial backing for upcoming housing developments.
The enhanced funding is expected to help speed up construction activities and ensure that beneficiaries receive their payments without delays.
Technical Issues in SPARSH System Caused Payment Delays
Addressing concerns regarding delayed installments, Gore explained that the problem was linked to technical issues in the Central Government's SPARSH online fund transfer system.
The minister clarified that these technical glitches temporarily affected payment processing for some beneficiaries. However, he confirmed that the issues have now been resolved and that fund disbursements have resumed smoothly.
He assured the Assembly that beneficiaries would continue receiving their installments and that no eligible applicant would be deprived of assistance due to administrative delays.
Financial Assistance Available for Families Without Land
The government has also expanded support for families who do not own land. According to Gore, eligible beneficiaries can receive financial assistance of up to ₹1 lakh to purchase a plot and build a house.
This provision aims to help landless families achieve homeownership and benefit from government-backed housing schemes.
Maharashtra Reaffirms Commitment to Housing for All
With a new target of 15 lakh houses, increased funding, and improved payment systems, Maharashtra is strengthening its efforts to provide affordable and permanent housing across the state.
The government has assured beneficiaries that financial assistance will continue without interruption and reiterated its commitment to ensuring that every eligible family has access to a safe and secure home.
As housing remains a key development priority, the state's ambitious construction goals are expected to play a major role in improving living standards and expanding homeownership opportunities for millions of residents.
