Bandra Fort Connector Gets ₹1,722 Crore Approval

3.55-Km Four-Lane Road to Improve Connectivity to Pali Hill, Bandra Fort and Taj Lands End

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has approved the ₹1,722.40 crore Bandra Fort Connector project, a major road infrastructure plan aimed at improving traffic movement from the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Sea Link toward Bandra West, Pali Hill, Bandra Fort and Taj Lands End.

The 3.55-kilometer connector will be developed as a four-lane road with two lanes in each direction. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will execute the project as part of the ongoing sea link infrastructure works.

₹1,722 Crore Bandra Fort Connector Project Approved

The state government has granted administrative approval for the connector, which will be constructed near Bandra Fort, opposite Hotel Taj Lands End. The project has been approved at an estimated cost of ₹1,722.40 crore.

The total amount includes ₹1,183.79 crore for civil construction, along with allied expenses and GST.

The new road is expected to provide an additional route for motorists traveling from the sea link toward important parts of Bandra West. It is designed to improve access to the Pali Hill area and the Bandra Fort to Taj Lands End stretch.

New Four-Lane Road to Reduce Bandra West Traffic

Traffic congestion is a major challenge on the existing roads connecting the Sea Link toll plaza with Pali Hill. Much of the existing route has one lane in each direction, limiting traffic capacity during busy hours.

According to project details, the approximately 2.6-kilometer journey from the Sea Link toll plaza to the Pali Hill area can currently take around 20 to 30 minutes because of heavy traffic.

The proposed four-lane connector is expected to increase road capacity and create smoother traffic movement. The overall 3.55-kilometer structure will include ramps and loops to support better connectivity between the sea link and surrounding areas.

MSRDC to Execute Bandra Fort Connector

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation will implement the project under the ongoing Swatantryaveer Savarkar Sea Link works.

The proposal for the additional connector was submitted by MSRDC to the Public Works Department at Mantralaya on August 19, 2024. The project was later formally approved through a government resolution dated July 28, 2026.

The approval allows MSRDC to proceed with the additional connector linking the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Sea Link bridge at Bandra Fort.

Project Demand Raised by Ashish Shelar

The need for the additional road connection was raised by Advocate Ashish Shelar, Cabinet Minister and Guardian Minister for Mumbai Suburbs. He had sought the inclusion of the connector in the ongoing sea link project to address traffic concerns in the Bandra West area.

Once developed, the new route is expected to offer motorists a wider and more efficient connection toward Pali Hill, Bandra Fort and Taj Lands End.

Bandra Infrastructure Gets a Major Connectivity Boost

The Bandra Fort Connector is expected to strengthen road connectivity around one of Mumbai's busiest western suburbs. By adding four lanes and dedicated ramps and loops, the project aims to provide more road capacity and reduce pressure on narrow existing routes.

The ₹1,722.40 crore project is therefore expected to play an important role in improving traffic flow around Bandra West while providing a stronger road link from the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Sea Link to key destinations in the area.
