Mumbai’s iconic Shri Siddhivinayak Ganpati Temple precinct in Prabhadevi is set for a major transformation after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde officially performed the Bhoomi Pujan and foundation stone-laying ceremony for the ambitious infrastructure and urban renewal project on Monday evening.
The grand ceremony was held at the open courtyard near the temple’s Siddhi Entrance, marking the formal beginning of one of the most significant redevelopment and beautification initiatives planned around the historic temple complex.
The redevelopment project aims to modernise the surrounding temple precinct, improve infrastructure and enhance facilities for the lakhs of devotees who visit Shri Siddhivinayak Temple every year.

The high-profile event witnessed the presence of several senior political, civic and temple trust officials.
Along with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, BMC Mayor Ritu Tawde and Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi also attended the ceremony, highlighting the joint coordination between the state government, civic administration and temple trust authorities.
Before the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony, the dignitaries visited the temple sanctum and offered prayers to Lord Ganesha.
Senior officials of the Shri Siddhivinayak Ganpati Temple Trust were also present during the rituals and inauguration proceedings.
These included Temple Trust Chairman Sadanand Sarvankar, Treasurer Pawankumar Tripathi and Executive Officer Veena Patil along with trustees Rahul Londhe, Bhaskar Shetty, Mahesh Mudaliar, Gopal Dalvi, Jitendra Raut, Sudarshan Sangle and Meena Kambli.
Siddhivinayak Precinct Set for Major Urban Transformation
The redevelopment project is expected to significantly improve infrastructure and visitor management around one of Mumbai’s most important religious landmarks.
Officials stated that the project aims to modernise the precinct while preserving the spiritual identity and heritage value of the temple.
The initiative is also expected to improve crowd management, public amenities and overall accessibility for devotees visiting the temple throughout the year.
The Siddhivinayak Temple remains one of the busiest pilgrimage centres in Mumbai and witnesses massive footfall during festivals, Tuesdays and Ganesh-related celebrations.
Authorities believe the redevelopment will help create a more organised, efficient and comfortable experience for devotees.
Community Welfare Initiative Held Alongside Ceremony
Along with the foundation-laying event, a parallel community welfare initiative was also organised in collaboration with major public sector banks.
Punjab National Bank, Bank of Maharashtra and State Bank of India partnered with the temple trust to distribute essential household items to local citizens.
The initiative included distribution of bicycles, induction cookers and mixer grinders free of cost as part of the social outreach programme conducted during the event.
Officials stated that the programme reflected the broader objective of combining urban development with public welfare and community support.
Siddhivinayak Temple Continues Expanding Public Facilities
The latest redevelopment initiative marks another important step in the long-term modernisation of the Siddhivinayak Temple precinct.
Over the years, authorities have increasingly focused on improving infrastructure, safety systems and facilities around the temple to accommodate growing numbers of devotees and tourists.
The new project is expected to further strengthen the temple’s status as one of Mumbai’s most prominent spiritual and cultural landmarks.
Major Boost for Religious Infrastructure in Mumbai
The Bhoomi Pujan ceremony formally signals the beginning of a major urban renewal effort around the Siddhivinayak Temple area.
Officials believe the redevelopment will not only improve the overall temple experience for devotees but also contribute to broader infrastructure enhancement in the Prabhadevi locality.
With strong coordination between the Maharashtra government, BMC and temple trust authorities, the project is expected to become one of Mumbai’s most important religious infrastructure developments in the coming years.
