CM Devendra Fadnavis Pushes Faster Redevelopment, Greater Transparency, and More Affordable Homes Across Maharashtra

The Maharashtra government has taken another major step to strengthen affordable housing by giving in-principle approval to form a high-level committee that will attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the state's housing sector. The decision aims to bring more investment, speed up housing development, and improve the delivery of affordable homes across Maharashtra.

During a housing sector review meeting on Thursday, Devendra Fadnavis also directed the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority to establish a dedicated grievance redressal cell. The new system is expected to improve transparency and quickly resolve issues related to redevelopment projects.

Government Focuses on Quality, Speed, and Affordable Housing

The Chief Minister emphasized that all government-backed housing projects must meet construction deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards. He said faster execution is essential to achieve the state's goal of providing affordable housing to more families.

He also instructed officials to speed up the relocation of residents under major cluster redevelopment projects, including the BDD Chawl redevelopment. In addition, authorities have been asked to evaluate infrastructure requirements for the ongoing redevelopment of Kamathipura.

MHADA Gets Approval for Akkalkot Temple Development

The state government also approved MHADA's role in developing the Akkalkot shrine area. The project will be completed in two phases.

The first phase will include the construction of the Samadhi and temple complex, while the second phase will focus on developing the Palkhi Marg to improve facilities for pilgrims and visitors.

Major Redevelopment Projects Progress Across Mumbai

The review meeting examined redevelopment work in several key Mumbai locations, including Abhyudaya Nagar, GTB Nagar, Motilal Nagar, Adarsh Nagar (Worli), Bandra Reclamation, SVP Nagar (Andheri), Ramkrishna Nagar (Khar), Old MHB Colony, Gorai (Borivali), Bharat Nagar (Bandra East), Aram Nagar (Versova), Patra Chawl (Goregaon), and Charkop.

The Chief Minister said these projects will significantly increase the supply of quality homes for middle-income and lower-income families. He stressed that every redevelopment project should maintain transparency, construction quality, and timely completion.

MHADA Reports ₹3.70 Lakh Crore Redevelopment Pipeline

During the meeting, Sanjeev Jaiswal, Vice President and CEO of MHADA, informed the government that 15 major redevelopment projects are currently underway across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

These projects represent an estimated investment of ₹3.70 lakh crore and are expected to create more than 2.15 lakh residential units, significantly expanding the supply of affordable and redevelopment housing in the region.

Faster Completion of Housing Schemes Ordered

The Chief Minister also directed all concerned departments to accelerate housing projects across Maharashtra, including those being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).

He instructed officials to complete construction within the prescribed timelines while maintaining quality standards so that homes can be handed over to eligible beneficiaries without unnecessary delays.

The latest decisions highlight the Maharashtra government's strategy of combining foreign investment, transparent redevelopment practices, and faster project execution to strengthen affordable housing and meet the growing demand for quality homes across the state.
