Maharashtra Government Prioritizes Better Infrastructure for Key Industrial Belt

The Maharashtra government has made traffic and infrastructure improvements in the Chakan-Talegaon industrial belt a top priority. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed 14 government departments to work together on an action plan to address concerns raised by industries, workers and local residents.

Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has been appointed as the nodal officer for coordinating the efforts. He will lead the work of the 14 departments and hold review meetings every Friday to speed up pending projects and resolve key issues.

Pothole Repairs and Faster Road Work to Reduce Traffic

Shinde directed officials to immediately focus on pothole repairs, especially on roads that experience heavy industrial traffic. He also recommended the use of modern road repair methods, including pre-cast road technology and geo-polymer patches, to complete repairs quickly during the monsoon.

Officials have also been asked to review ongoing road projects and ensure they are completed on schedule. Contractors who delay projects or fail to meet required standards could face action.

The government will also examine the need for new internal roads, alternative routes and flyovers to improve traffic movement within Chakan city and nearby industrial areas.

Chakan Development Plan to Get Long-Pending Approval

Shinde said the long-pending development plan for Chakan city will be approved soon. The move is expected to support planned growth and improve infrastructure as industrial activity continues to expand across the region.

The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, or MIDC, will also provide land for important public facilities, including solid waste management projects, police stations, fire stations, hospitals and electricity substations.

Integrated Plan for Roads, Water, Power and Sewage

The deputy chief minister called for an integrated infrastructure plan covering roads, water supply, electricity, sewage and solid waste management.

He said these services are closely connected and need to improve together to support the industrial belt. Better basic infrastructure is also expected to improve conditions for businesses and residents in the area.

On the electricity front, Mahatransco has planned to install a new transformer by August 31. MIDC will provide land for an additional electricity substation to support the growing power requirements of the industrial region.

Shinde Meets Chakan-Talegaon Industrial Representatives

Shinde reviewed the situation during a video conference with industrialists from the Chakan-Talegaon area. The meeting focused on traffic congestion, road conditions, power supply and other infrastructure concerns affecting businesses and residents.

Industries Minister Uday Samant, MP Dr. Amol Kolhe, Legislative Council member Dr. Neelam Gorhe, MLA Babaji Kale and senior officials from the Industries Department, MIDC, Pune district administration and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority also attended the meeting.

Shinde described Maharashtra as a major industrial engine for the country and highlighted the importance of industrial centers such as Chakan and Talegaon. He directed officials to introduce short-term, medium-term and long-term solutions to traffic and infrastructure problems.

New Connectivity Projects Could Support Industrial Growth

The government also expects major connectivity projects to improve the movement of goods and people across the region.

The proposed Dedicated Freight Corridor linking the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ranjangaon and Chakan industrial areas could strengthen freight movement and support manufacturing activity. Another proposed highway connecting Uran, Karjat, Rajgurunagar, Shirur and Pune is also expected to improve regional connectivity.

These projects could help reduce pressure on existing roads while supporting the future expansion of industrial activity.

14 Departments to Work Under Pune Collector

The decision to bring 14 departments under a single coordination mechanism is aimed at making the response faster and more effective. Pune Collector Jitendra Dudi will monitor the progress of various works and coordinate with the concerned departments.

Regular Friday meetings will help officials identify delays, review progress and take quicker decisions on pending issues.

The Maharashtra government has emphasized that reliable roads, smooth traffic, adequate water and power supply, proper waste management and essential public facilities are important for sustaining industrial growth in Chakan and Talegaon.

With immediate road repairs, planned infrastructure upgrades and larger connectivity projects moving forward, the government aims to create better conditions for industries as well as the growing local population.
