Hyundai to Invest ₹4,000 Crore More in Maharashtra by 2030, Nearly Doubling Pune Plant Capacity

Hyundai Motor India plans to invest an additional ₹4,000 crore in Maharashtra by 2030 to expand its Pune manufacturing plant, strengthen local production, and support the launch of new vehicles. The investment will help increase the plant's annual production capacity from 170,000 to 320,000 units in phases.

Hyundai's Total Investment in Maharashtra to Reach ₹11,000 Crore

Hyundai Motor India (HMI) has already invested ₹7,000 crore in Maharashtra to develop its Pune manufacturing facility. The company now plans to invest another ₹4,000 crore by 2030, taking its direct investment in the state to ₹11,000 crore.

Tarun Garg, CEO and Managing Director of Hyundai Motor India, shared the investment plans during the official inauguration of the Pune plant. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, Transport Minister Uday Samant, and senior Hyundai Group executives attended the event.

Garg said Maharashtra would play a key role in the company's future growth, with Pune expected to support Hyundai's manufacturing operations across India.

Pune Plant to Increase Annual Production Capacity to 320,000 Units

The Pune facility currently has an annual production capacity of 170,000 vehicles. Hyundai plans to expand this capacity to 320,000 units by 2030 through a phased expansion program.

The plant is designed with advanced manufacturing systems, artificial intelligence-enabled production technologies, digital processes, and modern quality management systems. These features are expected to improve production efficiency and support the company's growing vehicle portfolio.

The facility also includes an advanced engine manufacturing unit with an annual production capacity of 150,000 engines.

Once the planned expansion is complete, Hyundai Motor India's combined manufacturing capacity at its Pune and Chennai facilities is expected to reach nearly 1.14 million vehicles annually by 2030.

Hyundai Targets 92% Localization in India

Hyundai aims to increase localization at its Pune plant from the current 83% to 92%. This means the company plans to source a larger share of vehicle components and manufacturing requirements from within India.

The move is expected to strengthen local suppliers, support domestic manufacturing, and create more opportunities for businesses across Maharashtra.

According to Garg, supplier partners have already invested approximately ₹4,600 crore in the state. Together with Tier-II vendors, the supplier network has generated more than 18,000 employment opportunities in Maharashtra.

The stronger local supply chain is expected to play an important role in Hyundai's expansion plans and India's wider automotive manufacturing growth.

Hyundai Plans 26 New Models and More Electric Vehicles

Alongside expanding production, Hyundai is preparing to introduce 26 new models to support its growth strategy and strengthen its position in the Indian passenger vehicle market.

The company is also increasing its focus on electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and locally manufactured EV components.

Garg said Hyundai plans to offer four electric vehicles by 2029. The company is also working to localize its battery pack supply chain and power electronics to strengthen its electric vehicle operations in India.

Hyundai has also announced plans to introduce hybrid vehicles. Its broader target is to make 50% of its vehicle portfolio sustainable by 2030.

These initiatives reflect the company's focus on expanding its range of cleaner mobility options while investing in the supporting manufacturing and charging infrastructure.

Hyundai's India Investment Strategy Reaches $15.5 Billion

The additional Maharashtra investment is part of Hyundai Motor Group's wider investment strategy for India. The South Korean automotive group has announced plans to invest $15.5 billion in the country by 2032.

The strategy covers manufacturing, research, innovation, electrification, and other areas that support the company's long-term growth.

Hyundai expects its Indian operations to benefit from this investment through increased production, new vehicle launches, stronger supply chains, and improved manufacturing capabilities.

The company also plans to expand its export business. Hyundai Motor India has already exported 4 million passenger vehicles from India since 1999, making it the country's first automaker to reach this milestone.

The company has also sold nearly 10 million passenger vehicles in the domestic market.

Maharashtra Strengthens Its Position as an Automotive Hub

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Hyundai's new Pune plant and its export milestone highlight India's growing strength in global automotive manufacturing.

He noted that continued investment in advanced manufacturing, technology, innovation, localization, and skill development would support economic growth and employment generation in Maharashtra.

Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung also highlighted India's importance to the company's global operations, describing the Pune facility as a sign of its long-term commitment to the country.

The plant's flexible production systems are designed to support multiple vehicle models, including internal combustion engine vehicles and hybrids in the future.

Pune Plant to Support Hyundai's Long-Term Growth

Hyundai's planned ₹4,000 crore investment is expected to strengthen Maharashtra's automotive ecosystem while supporting the company's production and export ambitions.

With higher manufacturing capacity, increased localization, new vehicle launches, and a growing electric vehicle portfolio, the Pune facility is set to become an important part of Hyundai's future operations in India.

The expansion also offers opportunities for local suppliers, skilled workers, and businesses connected to the automotive industry, reinforcing Maharashtra's role in India's manufacturing and economic development.
