Mumbai’s long-awaited BDD Chawl redevelopment work is moving ahead across major project locations, with MHADA reviewing construction progress, quality standards and project timelines at Worli, N. M. Joshi Marg and Naigaon.
On May 14, 2026, MHADA Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Shri Sanjeev Jaiswal (IAS) visited these redevelopment sites, along with the Kannamwar Nagar project at Vikhroli East, to assess the ongoing work and review the next stages of execution.
Worli BDD Chawl Residents Share Their Experience
During the visit, Shri Jaiswal inspected the ongoing construction work at the Worli BDD Chawl Redevelopment Project. Under this project, 556 rehabilitation tenements have already been allotted to eligible residents.
He also visited the homes of three beneficiaries who have shifted into the newly allotted tenements. The residents shared their experience of moving from old, cramped chawl structures into secure and well-planned 2 BHK homes in the heart of Mumbai.
For many families, the change has been more than just physical. Residents said the new homes offer better space, cleaner surroundings and modern amenities. Children now have a separate place to study, women feel safer in the improved environment, and senior citizens have access to more convenient facilities.
Redevelopment Changing Everyday Life
The interaction at Worli brought out how redevelopment is reshaping daily life for families that have lived for years in congested housing conditions.
Beneficiaries expressed satisfaction with the construction quality, spacious planning and facilities provided in the new apartments. Some residents said the project has not only changed their homes, but also improved their overall lifestyle.
Local residents also appreciated MHADA’s effort to complete the work within the planned timeframe. They said the administration maintained regular communication during the rehabilitation process and responded to citizens’ concerns.
Shri Jaiswal also sought suggestions from residents and reiterated MHADA’s focus on keeping redevelopment work citizen-centric.
Review at N. M. Joshi Marg, Naigaon and Kannamwar Nagar
After the Worli inspection, Shri Jaiswal visited the N. M. Joshi Marg and Naigaon BDD Chawl Rehabilitation Project sites to review the progress of ongoing work. At the Naigaon project, he also interacted with a rehabilitation tenement beneficiary and took feedback regarding the project.
He later inspected the Kannamwar Nagar project at Vikhroli East, where he reviewed the status of construction and related works.
Focus on Quality, Coordination and Timely Completion
During the inspection, Shri Jaiswal directed officials to ensure that all work is completed within the stipulated timelines and according to prescribed quality standards.
He described the BDD Chawl Redevelopment Project as one of MHADA’s most significant redevelopment initiatives, aimed at providing residents with quality homes, modern amenities and strong infrastructure.
Officials were instructed to resolve technical and administrative issues on priority so that the pace of work is not affected. Shri Jaiswal also stressed the need for better coordination among all stakeholders involved in the redevelopment process.
He further directed officials to regularly update residents about project progress and address their grievances and suggestions in a transparent and time-bound manner.
