Maharashtra Sees 37.93 Lakh Women Apply for Farmer Certificates, Yavatmal Leads State Registrations
New Farmer Certificate Program Gives Women Official Recognition
More than 37.93 lakh women across Maharashtra have applied for the newly introduced women farmer certificate, showing strong interest in the state’s effort to recognize women’s role in agriculture. Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne said the response to the initiative has been encouraging.
As of October 7, the Maharashtra Agriculture Department had received 37,93,051 applications from women across the state. The certificate is designed to give women involved in farming official recognition as independent farmers and help them access agricultural schemes, government programs and other benefits.
Maharashtra Strengthens Recognition for Women Farmers
The initiative follows the Maharashtra Government’s Maharashtra Women Farmers Empowerment Act, 2026, which aims to provide women farmers with legal recognition, equal rights and better access to government agricultural support.
The new certificate can help women establish their identity as farmers when applying for eligible government programs and agricultural benefits.
68,436 Women Have Already Received Certificates
The certification process is already underway across Maharashtra. According to the Agriculture Department, Gram Sabhas have been held in 895 gram panchayats, leading to the issuance of 68,436 women farmer certificates so far.
The certificates are expected to be provided within 15 days after the completion of the Gram Sabha, helping eligible women receive formal recognition without a long waiting period.
