Maharashtra Allocates ₹25,000 Crore for Tribal Development Under Sansadiya Sankul Vikas Pariyojana
Maharashtra has earmarked ₹25,000 crore for tribal development under the Sansadiya Sankul Vikas Pariyojana, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Thursday. The initiative is designed to support development in tribal areas by bringing government schemes together and focusing on groups of villages instead of individual villages.
The state government is now preparing to implement action plans under the initiative. The focus will be on creating local employment, improving living conditions and reducing the need for people to leave their villages in search of work.
Focus on Jobs and Reducing Migration
According to Fadnavis, employment generation and reducing migration will be important parts of the tribal development plan. The government wants to create more livelihood opportunities within villages so families can find work closer to home.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the need to coordinate Central and state government schemes. Under the cluster-based approach, several nearby villages will be developed together so that resources and development programs can have a wider impact.
The action plans are expected to include programs aimed at producing visible improvements in the daily lives of people living in tribal communities.
Nandurbar Provides an Example
Fadnavis said the concept of the initiative was introduced around five to six years ago and is now moving into implementation. He pointed to Nandurbar district as an example where the approach has reportedly delivered encouraging results, particularly in agriculture.
According to the Chief Minister, stronger agricultural activity in the district has contributed to improvements in the living conditions of local communities. He also said two Central government schemes focused on tribal areas are helping support development in these regions.
The experience of Nandurbar is being cited as an example of how better coordination of development programs and local economic opportunities can support tribal communities.
Education, Healthcare and Employment to Remain Key Areas
Education, healthcare and employment will remain important areas under the initiative. Fadnavis said successful implementation of government programs will be essential to achieving the intended results.
The government will also need to ensure that benefits reach the people they are designed for. Fadnavis stressed the importance of monitoring implementation so that funds and government schemes are effectively used at the local level.
Village Clusters to Support Wider Development
Rather than treating each village as a separate development unit, the initiative will use a cluster-based model. This approach is intended to bring multiple villages together for coordinated planning and development.
By connecting employment, agriculture, education, healthcare and other government programs, the state aims to create stronger local opportunities for tribal communities.
The ₹25,000 crore allocation marks a major financial commitment toward tribal development in Maharashtra. The next stage will focus on preparing and implementing action plans and ensuring that development benefits reach communities on the ground.
