MHT-CET 2027: Maharashtra Schedules Both Exam Attempts After Class 12 Board Exams

Maharashtra has revised the MHT-CET 2027 schedule, with both entrance exam attempts now planned between March and May. The decision will give students more time to prepare after their Class 12 board exams, with a four-week gap between the two attempts and the higher score considered for admission.

Maharashtra Revises MHT-CET 2027 Exam Schedule

The Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Department has revised the schedule for the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) 2027, which is used for admission to engineering and pharmacy courses across the state.

Under the revised plan, both MHT-CET attempts will take place after the Class 12 board examinations. The exams are expected to be conducted between March and May 2027.

Earlier, the state government planned to hold the first attempt in December 2026 and the second in April 2027. However, after receiving feedback from parents, student counselors, and education experts, officials decided to move both attempts to the period after the board exams.

Why Maharashtra Changed the MHT-CET 2027 Dates

The revised schedule follows discussions with stakeholders from different parts of Maharashtra. Some parents and education counselors, particularly in rural areas, raised concerns about conducting the first entrance exam in December while students were still preparing for their Class 12 examinations.

Representatives from districts such as Dharashiv, Nandurbar, and Chandrapur reportedly suggested that both entrance exam attempts should take place after the board exams. This would allow students to focus on their school examinations first and then prepare for MHT-CET.

After reviewing the feedback and considering expert suggestions, the department decided to cancel the proposed December 2026 attempt and conduct both tests between March and May 2027.

Four-Week Gap Between Both MHT-CET Attempts

Under the revised plan, students will have approximately four weeks between the two MHT-CET attempts. This interval will give candidates additional time to review their performance, strengthen weaker subjects, and prepare for the second test.

The state will also continue its policy of considering the higher score from the two attempts for admission. This means students who perform better in their second attempt can improve their admission prospects, even if their first score is lower.

The two-attempt system is designed to provide students with another opportunity to perform well and reduce the pressure associated with a single high-stakes entrance examination.

MHT-CET Two-Attempt System Aims to Reduce Exam Pressure

Maharashtra announced the two-attempt system in November last year to bring the state entrance examination closer to the format of national-level entrance tests, including the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).

During the 2025-26 academic year, both MHT-CET attempts were conducted in April and May because the system was introduced relatively late. For the following examination cycle, the state initially considered moving the first attempt to December 2026 before deciding to keep both attempts after the Class 12 board examinations.

The revised arrangement is expected to help students manage their academic schedules more effectively while providing greater flexibility in their entrance exam preparation.

MHT-CET 2027 Tentative Timetable Expected Soon

Students preparing for MHT-CET 2027 should watch for the official examination timetable from the Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Department. According to a senior department official, the tentative schedule for all Common Entrance Tests for the academic year is expected to be released within the next week.

Candidates should use the official timetable to confirm the examination dates, registration deadlines, and other important instructions once the schedule is announced.

With both MHT-CET attempts planned after the Class 12 board exams, students will have a clearer sequence for preparing for their board examinations and entrance tests. The four-week gap and higher-score policy will also give candidates another chance to improve their performance and strengthen their chances of securing admission to their preferred engineering or pharmacy programs.
