Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Appoints 282 Navy Agniveers as Police Constables, Expands Job Opportunities

Maharashtra Government Integrates 282 Navy Agniveers Into Police Force, With Plans to Offer Similar Opportunities to Army and Air Force Personnel.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced the appointment of 282 Navy Agniveers as police constables, creating new career opportunities for trained military personnel in the state. The move follows changes to government recruitment rules and highlights Maharashtra’s efforts to support Agniveers seeking employment after their military service.

Speaking to reporters in Nagpur on Friday, Fadnavis said the state government had decided to induct eligible Agniveers who wish to join the Maharashtra Police. He also confirmed that similar opportunities would be extended to personnel who have served in the Army and Air Force.

282 Navy Agniveers Receive Police Constable Appointments

In a post on his official X account, Fadnavis announced that the state government had approved the appointments after making the required changes to recruitment rules.

According to the Chief Minister, the government received the first list of 282 Navy Agniveers from Maharashtra. The selected candidates include 150 Seaman Deckside personnel and 132 Seaman Engineside personnel.

All 282 recruits have been appointed as police constables, and their appointment orders have been issued.

Fadnavis said the state cabinet had previously decided to provide reservation in government jobs for Agniveers. The latest appointments mark an important step in putting that decision into practice.

Navy Agniveers to Strengthen Maharashtra Coastal Security

The newly appointed personnel have been integrated into Maharashtra’s coastal security wing, according to the Chief Minister.

Fadnavis highlighted the value of their military training and practical experience, noting that they had served in demanding environments and developed skills that could strengthen the state police force.

He said their experience in handling challenging situations would benefit both the recruits and the police department. Their induction is expected to support coastal security operations by bringing trained personnel into the state’s law enforcement system.

Maharashtra Plans Police Jobs for Army and Air Force Agniveers

The Maharashtra government also plans to create employment opportunities for eligible Agniveers from the Army and Air Force.

Fadnavis said the state would welcome personnel from these services who wish to join the police force. The initiative aims to help trained military personnel continue their careers in public service after completing their military engagement.

The move could also help the police force benefit from the discipline, physical fitness, operational experience, and specialized training that Agniveers gain during their service.

Recruitment Rule Changes Support Agniveer Employment

The appointments follow amendments to the relevant government recruitment rules, allowing the state to move forward with its plan to provide employment opportunities to Agniveers.

The initiative reflects a broader effort to create career pathways for former military personnel and make use of their training and experience in civilian government services.

With 282 Navy Agniveers now appointed as police constables, Maharashtra has taken a significant step toward integrating trained military personnel into state policing. The government's plans to extend similar opportunities to Army and Air Force Agniveers could further expand employment options for those who have served the country.
