Tue Nov 03 2026

Maharashtra Government Approves ₹291.91 Crore Relief for Farmers Affected by Heavy Rains and Floods in 2026

The Maharashtra government has approved financial assistance of ₹291.91 crore for farmers who suffered crop and agricultural land damage due to heavy rainfall and floods between June and August 2026. The relief package aims to help affected farming families recover from their losses and resume agricultural activities.

Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Makarand Jadhav Patil announced the decision, confirming that the government has issued official Government Resolutions (GRs) to release the approved funds. The assistance will be distributed among eligible farmers according to the guidelines of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

Maharashtra Approves ₹262.69 Crore Crop Loss Compensation for Over 3 Lakh Farmers

Of the total approved amount, ₹262.69 crore has been allocated to compensate 3,09,289 farmers whose crops were damaged across 2,68,918.29 hectares of agricultural land.

Farmers from six administrative divisions will receive the approved assistance. These include Pune, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Amravati, Konkan and Nashik.

The financial support will cover eligible beneficiaries across several districts, including Sangli, Satara, Pune, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Wardha, Gondia, Bhandara, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Dharashiv, Jalna, Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, Ahilyanagar and Nandurbar.

The government will transfer the crop damage compensation directly into eligible farmers' bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. This approach is expected to make the payment process more transparent and help beneficiaries receive assistance without unnecessary delays.

₹29.21 Crore Approved for Agricultural Land Damage

Along with crop loss compensation, the state government has sanctioned another ₹29.21 crore for 34,984 farmers whose agricultural land was damaged by heavy rainfall and flooding.

The affected agricultural land covers approximately 7,675.40 hectares across several districts, including Yavatmal, Buldhana, Amravati, Gadchiroli, Wardha, Chandrapur, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, Satara and Pune.

This assistance will be provided under the applicable disaster relief provisions. Small and marginal farmers who own the affected agricultural land will qualify for support at prescribed government rates, subject to a maximum eligible area of two hectares.

The financial assistance will also help farmers address specific types of land damage caused by natural disasters. This includes the removal of sand, silt and saline deposits that can affect soil quality and make agricultural land difficult to cultivate.

Maharashtra Directs District Officials to Ensure Fair Distribution of Relief

To ensure that the assistance reaches the correct beneficiaries, the government has directed district administrations and tehsil offices to carefully verify farmer records before releasing payments.

Minister Makarand Jadhav Patil said officials must ensure that no farmer receives duplicate compensation for the same agricultural season. Under the existing disaster relief rules, eligible beneficiaries can receive assistance for a particular agricultural season only once.

These verification measures will help maintain transparency and ensure that government funds reach farmers who genuinely suffered losses due to heavy rainfall and floods.

Banks Directed Not to Use Farmers' Relief Money for Loan Recovery

The state government has also taken steps to protect the financial assistance provided to affected farmers. Minister Jadhav Patil has instructed district collectors to inform banks that disaster relief funds credited to farmers' accounts must not be diverted toward loan repayments or other outstanding dues.

This direction is intended to ensure that farmers can use the full assistance amount to manage their immediate agricultural and household needs.

Maharashtra Government Strengthens Support for Rain-Affected Farmers

The approval of ₹291.91 crore reflects Maharashtra's continued efforts to support farming communities affected by natural disasters. With more than 3.09 lakh farmers eligible for crop loss compensation and additional assistance approved for agricultural land damage, the relief package is expected to provide important financial support across the affected districts.

Through direct bank transfers, district-level verification and instructions to protect relief payments from loan recovery, the government aims to make the assistance process more effective and farmer-friendly.

The financial support will help affected farmers address immediate losses, restore damaged agricultural land and prepare for future farming activities.
