He encouraged global companies to invest in port development, shipbuilding, ship repair, logistics, and export-related activities.

Mumbai Hosts the Fourth Maritime India Conference and Expo 2026

The three-day Maritime India Conference and Expo began on November 2 at NESCO, Goregaon, Mumbai, and will continue through November 4. Organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the event brings together industry leaders, government representatives, maritime experts, and international investors.

Representatives from nine countries are participating in the conference. These include the Netherlands, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates.

The conference provides an important platform for discussing new investment opportunities, sharing industry knowledge, and building international partnerships in the maritime sector.

Maharashtra's Coastline and Industrial Strength Create Investment Opportunities

Highlighting Maharashtra's advantages, Rane said the state had strong potential to become a leading international center for maritime business. Its extensive coastline, natural harbors, established industrial base, and well-developed export ecosystem offer several opportunities for investors.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the state government is working to improve port infrastructure and expand its shipping and logistics capabilities to meet international standards.

The government is also encouraging a business-friendly environment through single-window clearance facilities. These systems aim to simplify approval procedures, reduce delays, and help investors start projects more efficiently.

Mumbai Water Metro Project to Strengthen Modern Water Transport

Rane also highlighted the state's plans to develop modern water transportation facilities, including the proposed Mumbai Water Metro. He expressed confidence that the project could develop into the world's largest water transport network.

The proposed initiative is expected to improve urban connectivity and create new opportunities for water-based transportation. It also reflects Maharashtra's broader vision of using its coastal and maritime resources to support modern infrastructure development.

Along with improving passenger connectivity, such projects could support the growth of related industries and strengthen the state's maritime ecosystem.

Shipbuilding, Port Development and Logistics to Attract Global Investors

The minister encouraged international companies to consider Maharashtra for investments in port development, shipbuilding, ship repair, shipping, logistics, and exports.

He said the government was focused on combining the state's natural geographical advantages with modern infrastructure and industrial capabilities. This approach is expected to attract more domestic and international businesses while supporting long-term economic development.

The maritime sector also offers significant employment potential. New projects could create opportunities for skilled professionals, engineers, technicians, port workers, logistics specialists, and other workers associated with the shipping industry.

Maharashtra Aims to Support India's Maritime Growth Vision

Rane said Maharashtra would play an important role in supporting India's national objective of becoming stronger in the global maritime industry during Amrit Kaal. The state is working to increase its contribution to shipping, port operations, international trade, and logistics.

The conference was attended by several prominent representatives from the maritime and shipping industries, including FICCI President Vijay Shankar, FICCI Shipping and Ports Committee Chairman Dhruv Kotak, Netherlands Deputy Consul General Thierry Van Helden, Captain Abul Kalam Azad, Maritime Adviser and Additional Director General (Navy), and Captain Binesh Tyagi, Chairman and Managing Director of the Shipping Corporation of India.

Other attendees included Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority Chairman Gaurav Dayal, Odisha Commerce and Transport Department Principal Secretary N.B.S. Rajput, and Maharashtra Maritime Board CEO Pradeep P.

With investment agreements worth ₹76,000 crore, expanding infrastructure plans, and growing international participation, Maharashtra is strengthening its efforts to become a major destination for maritime investments. The state's focus on ports, shipping, logistics, and modern water transportation is expected to support industrial development, attract global businesses, and create new employment opportunities in the coming years.
