Maharashtra Forms Task Force To Boost Drone Industry

Maharashtra is preparing for a stronger push in the drone sector with the state government planning to create a ministerial task force to speed up policy implementation, support entrepreneurs and strengthen local manufacturing.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the task force after a meeting with drone industry entrepreneurs and companies at Sahyadri Guest House. The panel will be led by Electronics, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Minister Ashish Shelar.

Maharashtra Plans Faster Implementation of Drone Policy

The new task force will focus on making Maharashtra's drone policy easier for businesses to use. It will also help entrepreneurs understand and access government schemes while addressing industry concerns on a priority basis.

Fadnavis said the state needs a unified approach that brings together different policies covering drone research and development, local component manufacturing, testing, patents and financial support.

According to the Chief Minister, Maharashtra already has a strong drone policy compared with other states. The next step is to ensure that companies and entrepreneurs can easily access the benefits available under it.

Focus on Drone Research and Local Manufacturing

The government will place special attention on research and development as well as the production of drone components within India.

Fadnavis directed officials to bring together financial support available for research under various government policies. A single framework could make it easier for businesses to understand and apply for these benefits.

Government to Strengthen Existing Drone Ecosystem

The Chief Minister also said Maharashtra should focus on strengthening the drone ecosystem already operating in the state rather than concentrating only on attracting new companies.

Officials have been asked to explore financial support for testing expenses faced by existing institutions. This assistance could continue until the state develops enough laboratories and testing facilities for the growing industry.

Better testing infrastructure is expected to help companies develop, validate and improve drone products within the state.

Drone City in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to Get Faster Push

Fadnavis also directed officials to speed up the development of a proposed Drone City in the Industrial City area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

The project is expected to create a dedicated environment for drone-related companies, research activities, manufacturing and supporting businesses. Faster development of the Drone City could help Maharashtra build a stronger hub for the emerging drone economy.

Special Incentives for Drone Companies

The state government is also considering a special incentive policy for the next two to three years.

The proposal would focus on helping drone companies secure suitable land through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation. Easier access to industrial land could encourage more businesses to establish manufacturing and technology operations in Maharashtra.

The proposed incentives could also make the state more attractive for companies looking to expand their drone-related activities.

Testing Facilities and Patent Support

The government plans to take additional steps to establish drone testing ranges across the state. Such facilities can help companies test their products in a more organized and reliable environment.
