Mumbai: MHADA's ambitious housing and redevelopment initiatives received a major boost as Vice President and CEO IAS Sanjeev Jaiswal conducted an on-site review of the Siddharth Nagar (Patra Chawl) Housing Project in Goregaon and the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Nagar Cluster Redevelopment Project in Andheri West. During the inspection, he directed officials to accelerate construction activities and ensure timely completion of projects that are expected to deliver thousands of affordable homes to Mumbaikars.

The visit comes at a time when MHADA is expanding its housing footprint across Mumbai through large-scale redevelopment and residential projects. With nearly 3,700 homes under various stages of construction in Siddharth Nagar alone, the project is emerging as one of the authority's most significant affordable housing developments in the western suburbs.

IAS Sanjeev Jaiswal Pushes for Faster Execution

During the review, IAS Sanjeev Jaiswal instructed officials to expedite ongoing construction work, obtain all pending approvals from concerned agencies and remove obstacles delaying project implementation. He emphasised that affordable housing projects located in strategic urban areas must be completed within stipulated timelines to benefit homebuyers and strengthen Mumbai's housing infrastructure.

He also interacted with local residents to understand their concerns and reviewed the progress of various redevelopment and rehabilitation components being implemented by MHADA.

Nearly 3,700 Homes Taking Shape in Siddharth Nagar

The Siddharth Nagar Housing Project is witnessing construction activity across multiple plots designed to cater to different income groups.

Construction of 507 apartments for Lower- and Middle-Income Groups is underway on Plot R-1. On Plot R-4, work is progressing on 915 residential units along with 20 commercial shops. Another 576 apartments are being developed on Plot R-7/A-2, while Plot R-7/A-1 will accommodate 1,181 homes for Lower- and Middle-Income Group beneficiaries.

Additionally, 237 apartments for Lower, Middle- and Higher-Income Groups are planned on Plot R-12A. Construction of 250 apartments for the Higher Income Group category is currently underway on Plot R-13.

Once completed, the overall project is expected to provide nearly 3,700 homes, creating significant affordable housing inventory in one of Mumbai's most sought-after residential corridors.

85 Homes Included in MHADA Lottery 2026

During the inspection, officials informed that work on the A Wing of Plot R-3 is nearing completion. The B, C and D Wings of the project have already been completed, and 306 homes were allotted through a MHADA lottery in 2016.

The upcoming A Wing includes 85 apartments for the Lower Income Group category, which have been incorporated into the MHADA Lottery 2026, offering another opportunity for aspiring homeowners to secure affordable housing in Goregaon.

Focus On Large-Scale Redevelopment Across Mumbai

The inspection also included a review of the SVP Nagar Cluster Redevelopment Project in Andheri West, one of the major redevelopment initiatives being undertaken under MHADA's Construction and Development Agency (C&DA) model.

Currently, MHADA is implementing 11 major redevelopment projects across nearly 925 acres in Mumbai. These projects are expected to transform ageing housing colonies into modern residential communities while significantly increasing the stock of affordable homes across the city.

Officials stated that the Siddharth Nagar and SVP Nagar projects are among the key developments that will play an important role in addressing Mumbai's growing housing demand while improving the quality of urban living for thousands of families.
