Kisan Kathore Emerges as Possible Choice for MHADA Chairman

The long-pending appointments of chairpersons and office bearers to several state corporations in Maharashtra may soon be finalized. Political discussions within the ruling Grand Alliance, involving the BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP, are reportedly moving toward a decision on the distribution of key corporations.

Against this backdrop, BJP's Murbad MLA Kisan Kathore is being considered as a possible choice for the chairmanship of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority, or MHADA. However, there has been no official confirmation about his appointment so far.

Grand Alliance Working on Corporation Allocation

According to political sources, the proposed corporation-sharing formula could give the BJP around 48 corporations, while the Shinde-led Shiv Sena may receive 29 and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP could get 22.

The appointments are expected to be made in September, provided the discussions are completed as planned. The final formula is likely to decide who will take charge of several important state institutions.

MHADA is one of the most closely watched organizations because of its role in affordable housing, redevelopment and housing schemes across Maharashtra.

Sanjeev Jaiswal's Role at MHADA

The possible change in MHADA's political leadership comes at a time when the authority is handling several major housing and redevelopment initiatives under its existing administrative setup. IAS officer Sanjeev Jaiswal, who serves as MHADA's Vice President and CEO, has been associated with the authority's ongoing work on housing schemes, redevelopment and public-facing services.

His administrative role is separate from the political appointment of a chairman. If a new chairman is appointed, the chairman and the Vice President and CEO would continue to have distinct responsibilities within MHADA's overall structure.

Why Kisan Kathore's Name Is Being Discussed

Kisan Kathore is a BJP MLA from the Murbad Assembly constituency and has experience in legislative and organizational politics. His name had also come up earlier in discussions about a possible ministerial responsibility.

In February 2025, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reportedly indicated at a public program that Kathore was capable of handling a ministerial role and would receive an opportunity at the right time. This has added to the current political discussion about his possible appointment to an important state corporation.

Meeting With Devendra Fadnavis Adds to Speculation

A recent meeting between Kisan Kathore and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also attracted attention. Political circles are linking the meeting to the ongoing discussions over corporation appointments, although there is no official information confirming that MHADA was discussed.

Some sources believe Kathore is receiving strong consideration, but the final decision will depend on the Grand Alliance's discussions and the state government's formal announcement.
