MHADA to Develop Shri Swami Samarth Temple Complex in Akkalkot

Modern pilgrimage infrastructure planned while preserving Akkalkot’s spiritual and cultural heritage

A major development project is set to transform Akkalkot in Maharashtra into a modern pilgrimage destination. The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has been appointed as the Special Planning Authority for the planned development of the Shri Swami Samarth Temple complex.

The project, approved following the decision of Deputy Chief Minister and Housing Minister Eknath Shinde, is expected to involve an investment of around ₹500 crore. The development plan focuses on improving facilities for pilgrims, strengthening infrastructure, easing traffic movement, and supporting the overall growth of Akkalkot.

Akkalkot Set for Major Pilgrimage Infrastructure Upgrade

Akkalkot, located in Solapur district, is an important religious destination visited by devotees from across India and other parts of the world. Thousands of pilgrims visit the town to seek the blessings of Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj.

With MHADA taking on the role of Special Planning Authority, the temple complex and surrounding areas are expected to be developed through a coordinated master plan. The project is designed to address the growing needs of pilgrims while also improving infrastructure for residents.

₹500 Crore Plan to Bring Modern Facilities

The proposed ₹500 crore development is expected to cover several major infrastructure improvements. These include better road connectivity, road widening, organized parking areas, improved public facilities, and modern urban infrastructure.

The Palakhi Route, Samadhi Temple complex, traffic management system, lakes, gardens, and other public amenities are expected to receive attention under the development plan. These improvements could make movement around the pilgrimage town easier, particularly during periods when large numbers of devotees arrive.
