Mumbai BDD Chawl Redevelopment: 557 NM Joshi Marg Families Set to Get New Homes During Navratri

Mumbai’s BDD Chawl redevelopment project is moving ahead at NM Joshi Marg, where 557 eligible beneficiaries are set to receive possession of their new homes during the Navratri festival.

The Mumbai division of MHADA has completed preparations for the possession ceremony after receiving the required Occupancy Certificate for the completed rehabilitation buildings. The handover will provide hundreds of families with new homes before Dussehra and Diwali.

557 Homes to Be Handed Over During Navratri

Possession was initially planned for 342 homes in two rehabilitated buildings at the end of September. However, the program was postponed following residents’ request to avoid the Pitru Paksha period.

The scope of the handover has now increased. A third rehabilitation building with 215 homes has also been completed, taking the total number of homes planned for possession during Navratri to 557.

The MHADA Mumbai division has been working to complete the remaining formalities and prepare the homes for residents. MHADA Vice President and CEO, IAS Sanjeev Jaiswal has been overseeing the authority’s ongoing redevelopment and rehabilitation efforts across Mumbai.

Third Rehabilitation Building Adds 215 More Homes

Construction of two rehabilitation buildings on NM Joshi Marg has already been completed, with Occupancy Certificates received for 342 homes.

Construction of the third rehabilitation building has also reached completion. The OC for its 215 homes is expected shortly, allowing these homes to be included in the upcoming possession process.

With all three buildings included, 557 families will have the opportunity to move into their new homes during the festive season.

NM Joshi Marg Residents Supported Redevelopment

Residents of NM Joshi Marg were among the first BDD chawl residents to vacate their old homes to support the redevelopment project.

However, delays in receiving their new homes had caused concerns among residents. Following complaints about the pace of construction, work was accelerated to complete the rehabilitation buildings.

The completion of 557 homes marks an important step for families who have been waiting to return to newly developed homes.

BDD Chawl Redevelopment Progresses Across Mumbai

The Maharashtra government has assigned MHADA’s Mumbai division responsibility for redeveloping the old and dilapidated BDD chawls.

The first phase covers major locations including Worli, NM Joshi Marg and Naigaon. Redevelopment work is progressing at these locations, with possession being provided to eligible residents in phases.

Some families in Worli and Naigaon have already received possession of their new homes as construction and statutory approvals have been completed.

Families Set to Celebrate in New Homes

The planned handover of 557 homes during Navratri is expected to bring relief to families from NM Joshi Marg. With new rehabilitation buildings ready and the required approvals progressing, residents are now closer to moving into modern homes.

The upcoming possession also represents another major step in Mumbai’s ongoing BDD chawl redevelopment program, which aims to replace old and dilapidated structures with safer and improved housing for eligible residents.
