Mumbai BMC Deploys Unmanned Electric Boats to Clean Floating Waste Near Gateway of India

In a major step towards improving coastal cleanliness and reducing marine pollution, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has deployed unmanned electric boats near Gateway of India and Badhwar Park to collect floating waste from the sea.

According to officials, the eco-friendly boats are currently removing nearly 80 to 90 kilograms of floating marine waste daily from these locations as part of Mumbai’s broader waterfront cleanliness initiative.

The deployment reflects the increasing use of technology-driven and sustainable solutions for urban environmental management in Mumbai.

Fully Electric Boats Equipped With Smart Technology

The newly deployed boats are fully electric-powered, making them environmentally friendly and suitable for continuous coastal cleaning operations.

Officials stated that the boats are equipped with:

• Global Positioning System (GPS)
• Vehicle Traffic Management System (VTMS)

The boats currently remove approximately 80 to 90 kilograms of waste every day from the waters near Gateway of India and Badhwar Park.
