Mumbai News: Elon Musk’s Tesla Launches First In-Mall EV Charging Hub In India At Nexus Seawoods Mall
Wed Apr 08 2026
Mumbai: In a significant step towards expanding electric vehicle infrastructure in India, Tesla has launched its first in-mall EV charging station at Nexus Seawoods Mall in Navi Mumbai.
The new facility marks a strategic move by the company to enhance charging accessibility by integrating it into everyday lifestyle destinations such as shopping malls.
Advanced Charging Setup With Superchargers
The charging hub, located in the mall’s B1 parking area, includes a total of eight chargers:
- Four V4 Superchargers with fast DC charging up to 250 kW
- Four Destination Chargers offering AC charging at 11 kW
This combination allows users to choose between quick charging for short stops and slower charging during longer visits.
Faster Charging, Greater Convenience
Tesla highlighted that its Supercharger technology can power a Tesla Model Y with up to 275 km range in just 15 minutes, making it highly practical for urban and intercity travel.
The company’s strategy focuses on installing chargers at locations where customers naturally spend time, such as malls and highways, enabling seamless integration of charging into daily routines.
Smart Charging Experience Via App
The entire charging process is integrated with the Tesla mobile app, allowing users to:
- Locate charging stations
- Monitor charging progress in real time
- Make payments digitally
This ensures a smooth and user-friendly experience for EV owners.
Expanding Tesla’s India Footprint
With the Navi Mumbai installation, this becomes Tesla’s fourth charging location in India, after existing hubs in Delhi, Gurugram, and Mumbai.
The company’s network in India now includes:
- 20 Superchargers
- 14 Destination Chargers
This expansion reflects Tesla’s growing focus on building a reliable EV ecosystem in the country.
Pop-Up Store Enhances Customer Engagement
In addition to the charging hub, Tesla has also set up a pop-up experience centre inside the mall’s main atrium.
Visitors can:
- Explore Tesla vehicles
- Experience guided walkthroughs
- Book test drives
- Engage with interactive demonstrations
Boost To India’s EV Adoption
The move is expected to support the broader adoption of electric vehicles in India by addressing one of the key challenges—charging infrastructure.
With premium offerings like the Tesla Model Y, currently priced from around ₹59.89 lakh, Tesla is positioning itself strongly in India’s evolving EV market.
A Step Towards Future Mobility
By combining charging infrastructure with retail and lifestyle spaces, Tesla is redefining how EV users interact with charging ecosystems.
The Navi Mumbai hub signals a shift towards more accessible, convenient, and integrated EV infrastructure, crucial for accelerating India’s transition to sustainable mobility.
