At Mumbai Tech Week 2026, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled a roadmap to position the state as India’s leading artificial intelligence hub. The strategy targets ₹10,000 crore in AI investments and the creation of 1.5 lakh jobs through AI-focused infrastructure, six Centres of Excellence, dedicated AI Innovation Regions and startup support initiatives. The plan also includes deploying AI across governance, healthcare, agriculture and public services to accelerate digital transformation.

Mumbai witnessed a major technology milestone as Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled an ambitious roadmap to transform the state into India's leading artificial intelligence and innovation hub during Mumbai Tech Week 2026. The state government has set a target of attracting ₹10,000 crore in AI investments while creating nearly 1.5 lakh employment opportunities across the artificial intelligence ecosystem.

Addressing industry leaders, entrepreneurs, investors and technology innovators at the Jio World Convention Centre in Bandra-Kurla Complex, the Chief Minister outlined Maharashtra's vision to build a globally competitive AI-driven economy powered by innovation, talent and advanced digital infrastructure.

The announcement marks one of the state's most significant technology-focused initiatives, aimed at strengthening Maharashtra's position as a preferred destination for emerging technologies, research and startup-led innovation.

Maharashtra To Build A Comprehensive AI Ecosystem

Highlighting the state's long-term strategy, Fadnavis said Maharashtra is creating an integrated ecosystem that supports startups, innovators, researchers and technology enterprises through policy incentives, incubation centres, accelerators and investment platforms.

The government plans to establish six Centres of Excellence dedicated to artificial intelligence, enabling research, skill development and industry collaboration across key sectors. Dedicated AI Innovation Regions will also be developed to attract domestic and global technology companies while fostering next-generation innovation clusters.

According to the Chief Minister, Maharashtra's goal is not only to become a technology consumer but also a global creator of AI-driven solutions capable of serving markets across India and the world.

Boost For Startups And AI Research

A major highlight of the roadmap is the proposed "Compute-as-a-Service" initiative, which will provide startups, researchers and innovators access to nearly 2,000 high-performance GPUs. The facility is expected to significantly reduce infrastructure barriers for AI development and support advanced research, machine learning and generative AI applications.

Industry experts believe access to large-scale computing resources will help startups accelerate innovation, improve competitiveness and attract greater investment into Maharashtra's technology ecosystem.

AI To Transform Governance And Public Services

The state government also outlined plans to deploy artificial intelligence across multiple public sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, policing and governance.

Officials said AI-powered solutions could help improve crop management, strengthen law enforcement capabilities, enhance healthcare delivery and increase administrative efficiency. The integration of advanced technologies into public services is expected to improve citizen outcomes while driving digital transformation across Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Strengthens Its Position As A Technology Leader

With targets of ₹10,000 crore in investments and 1.5 lakh new jobs, the state is positioning itself at the forefront of India's AI revolution. The roadmap reflects Maharashtra's broader vision of leveraging technology, innovation and entrepreneurship as key drivers of economic growth.

As Mumbai Tech Week 2026 brought together global technology leaders and investors, the announcement reinforced Maharashtra's ambition to emerge as one of Asia's most important artificial intelligence and innovation destinations in the coming years.
