Sun Jun 14 2026
Maharashtra has begun land acquisition for the Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway after issuing an official gazette notification for the project.
Major Step Forward for Maharashtra’s High-Speed Corridor Project
The Maharashtra government has officially started the land acquisition process for the proposed Nagpur–Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway, moving ahead with one of the state’s biggest planned infrastructure projects. The decision was announced through a gazette notification issued on June 9.
The ambitious greenfield expressway is being developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and is expected to strengthen road connectivity across several regions of the state.
Gazette Notification Marks Start of Land Acquisition Process
According to the notification published by Maharashtra’s Public Works Department, the government has declared its intention to acquire land required for building, operating, maintaining, and managing the expressway.
The notification stated that MSRDC, acting as the designated highway authority for this special state highway project, requested the government to begin acquiring the identified land parcels needed for construction.
Officials said the project is being carried out for public infrastructure development and long-term regional growth.
Land Acquisition Begins Under Maharashtra Highways Act
The state government confirmed that the land acquisition process has been initiated under Sections 15 and 17 of the Maharashtra Highways Act, 1955.
Authorities determined that the selected land is necessary for completing the expressway project and have started the legal process accordingly.
At the same time, the government has opened the process for public feedback. Individuals affected or interested in the proposed land use can submit written objections within 21 days from the publication date of the official gazette notification.
Objections must be submitted to the designated Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) responsible for land acquisition in the respective project areas. For example, landowners in Ajara–Bhudargad areas of Kolhapur must contact their local subdivision office.
What Is the Nagpur–Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway?
The Nagpur–Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway is a proposed high-speed roadway designed to improve transportation between Vidarbha, Marathwada, and western Maharashtra while creating a faster route connecting these regions to Goa.
The project is expected to reduce travel time, improve logistics movement, and support economic activity across districts located along the route.
Project Continues to Draw Mixed Reactions
While supporters view the expressway as an important infrastructure upgrade that could boost development and regional connectivity, the project has also faced opposition in some areas over land-related concerns.
The latest notification represents another important milestone as Maharashtra moves forward with planning and land acquisition for the large-scale expressway project.
