NMMC Sanctions Over ₹2.7 Crore for Major Infrastructure Improvements Across Navi Mumbai
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has approved civic infrastructure projects worth more than ₹2.7 crore (approximately $315,000) to improve public facilities across the city. The projects include new park developments, sewer line upgrades, drainage improvements, pedestrian footpaths, and repairs to a major sports complex.
The approvals were granted during the latest Standing Committee meeting led by Chairman Ashok Bhauso Patil. The proposals, submitted by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, received unanimous support from committee members.
NMMC Focuses on Better Public Infrastructure
The newly approved projects are designed to improve daily life for residents by upgrading essential civic infrastructure in several parts of Navi Mumbai. Officials said the investments will help create cleaner neighborhoods, safer public spaces, and better recreational facilities.
The projects cover multiple civic needs, including green spaces, sewer systems, drainage networks, walkways, and sports infrastructure.
New Parks to Enhance Green Spaces in Vashi
As part of its commitment to expanding public green areas, the NMMC has approved two park development projects in Vashi.
The Aai-Baba Garden in Sector 7 will be developed at a cost of ₹25.90 lakh, while the Gyan Kalash Garden in Sector 6 will receive an investment of ₹30.59 lakh.
These parks are expected to provide residents with improved recreational spaces, walking areas, and a better environment for families and senior citizens.
Sewer System Upgrade Planned for Nerul
To solve long-standing sewage and drainage problems, the Standing Committee has approved ₹63.05 lakh for replacing damaged and undersized sewer pipelines in the condominium area of Nerul Sector 8.
The project also includes repairing collapsed sewer chambers that have caused repeated sewage blockages and poor drainage. Officials believe the upgrades will improve sanitation and reduce maintenance issues in the area.
Sports Complex in CBD Belapur to Receive Repairs
The committee has also approved ₹29.26 lakh for repairing the boundary wall of the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex in CBD Belapur Sector 3.
The repair work is expected to strengthen the facility's infrastructure and improve safety for athletes, visitors, and local residents who regularly use the sports complex.
Drainage and Footpath Projects to Improve Ghansoli
To address flooding and improve pedestrian safety, the NMMC has cleared ₹89.62 lakh for constructing a 371-meter drainage channel along with a 356-meter-long, four-meter-wide footpath in Shantinagar, Ghansoli.
In addition, ₹31.12 lakh has been approved for building a 130-meter drainage line in Balaram Wadi, where the lack of a proper drainage system has caused frequent waterlogging during heavy rainfall.
Officials expect these projects to improve stormwater management while making the area safer and more accessible for pedestrians.
Dr. Kailas Shinde Promises Timely Project Completion
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde said the approved projects reflect the city's continued focus on strengthening civic infrastructure and improving public services.
According to Dr. Shinde, the NMMC administration is committed to completing all approved works on schedule so residents can benefit from better roads, parks, drainage systems, and public amenities as quickly as possible.
The latest approvals demonstrate the municipal body's ongoing efforts to invest in sustainable urban development while improving the overall quality of life for citizens across Navi Mumbai.
