Minister Inspects JNPA Development Plans to Boost Maharashtra’s Port and Logistics Network

Maharashtra Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) in Uran to review ongoing infrastructure projects and future expansion plans aimed at strengthening the state's maritime sector. The visit focused on improving port capacity, logistics connectivity, modern technology, and long-term infrastructure development.

During the review, Rane held detailed discussions with JNPA Chairman Gaurav Dayal, Maharashtra Maritime Board CEO P. Pradeep, JNPA Secretary and General Manager Manisha Jadhav, along with senior officials from JNPA and the Maharashtra Maritime Board.

Expansion Plans Focus on Higher Port Capacity and Better Connectivity

Officials briefed the minister on JNPA’s current cargo and container handling capacity, ongoing infrastructure upgrades, and plans to further expand operations. The discussions also covered multimodal transport connectivity, which is expected to improve the movement of goods through road, rail, and sea networks.

The review included updates on environmentally sustainable initiatives being implemented at the port to support cleaner and more efficient operations while meeting future trade demands.

Skill Development and Modern Technology Get Special Attention

The minister also examined training programs conducted by JNPA in partnership with international organizations. These initiatives are designed to improve workforce skills and prepare maritime professionals to operate advanced technologies and modern port systems.

Rane highlighted the importance of continuous skill development to support the growing needs of Maharashtra’s expanding maritime industry.

Vadhavan Port Project Remains a Key Infrastructure Priority

A major focus of the meeting was the ambitious Vadhavan Port project in Palghar district, which is being developed through a joint effort by the Central Government and the Maharashtra Government.

Officials reviewed the project's progress and discussed future plans to expand the state's port infrastructure, strengthen logistics networks, and improve Maharashtra’s position as a leading global maritime trade destination.

Minister Calls for Strong Centre-State Coordination

Rane stressed that close coordination between the Central and Maharashtra governments will be essential for the timely execution of major maritime projects. He emphasized that efficient planning and collaboration can help accelerate infrastructure development across the state's ports.

The minister also underlined the need to adopt advanced technology, develop world-class facilities, and continue investing in workforce training to support Maharashtra's long-term maritime growth strategy.
