Vidhan Bhavan Meeting Focuses on Redevelopment, Alternative Housing and Transit Camp Concerns

Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir reviewed several pending housing and redevelopment issues linked to the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) during a meeting at Vidhan Bhavan on Wednesday.

The meeting focused on concerns raised by residents of various MHADA housing societies across Mumbai. Key matters included BDD Chawl redevelopment, lottery-based home allotments, alternative accommodation, transit camp issues and long-pending redevelopment proposals.

BDD Chawl Residents’ Housing Concerns Discussed

One of the major topics was the redevelopment of the Bombay Development Department (BDD) chawls. Residents raised concerns about difficulties faced during the lottery-based allotment of homes under the redevelopment project.

The meeting also discussed the demand for alternative accommodation for families living in the Worli BDD Chawls. Issues affecting residents staying in transit camps were also reviewed.

Ahir asked officials to carefully consider residents’ concerns and work toward practical solutions to their pending problems.

Alternative Flats for Lower Parel Residents

The meeting also considered a request to provide alternative flats to 10 residents of Saraswati Building in Lower Parel.

Representations submitted by Tanwade and 30 other residents of Shivshakti Park on N. M. Joshi Marg were also discussed. Officials were asked to examine these matters and take appropriate action.

MHADA Building Cluster Proposal in Byculla

Another important issue was a proposal to include Geetanjali Building in Byculla in a cluster of five MHADA buildings.

The meeting also reviewed the rehabilitation of HIG and LIG residents of the SVP Nagar Society. A proposal to provide permanent ownership rights to families living in Gharakul Society at Tagore Nagar was also taken up.

Redevelopment Issues Across Mumbai Reviewed

Several other redevelopment matters were discussed during the meeting, including issues related to buildings in Abhyudaya Nagar, Rustom Tadiwala Chawl and Shahsadan Society.

The review aimed to move pending cases forward and provide residents with greater clarity on rehabilitation and redevelopment matters.

MHADA Officials Attend Review Meeting

MHADA Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Jaiswal attended the meeting along with Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board Chief Officer Milind Shambharkar, Mumbai Board Chief Officer Milind Borikar and other MHADA officials.

Representatives of the concerned housing societies were also present. The discussions highlighted the need for faster action on long-pending housing grievances and continued coordination between residents and MHADA officials.
