Sanjeev Jaiswal To Lead MHADA’s Pune Housing Lottery With 3,000–5,000 Affordable Homes By March 2026

Fri Mar 06 2026

A fresh opportunity for affordable homebuyers in Pune is set to arrive soon as IAS Sanjeev Jaiswal, Vice President and CEO of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority, prepares to roll out another major housing lottery by the end of March 2026.

The upcoming draw is expected to offer between 3,000 and 5,000 homes, providing another chance to thousands of applicants who missed out in the previous MHADA lottery. The move comes after an overwhelming response to the February 2026 housing draw, which saw an extraordinary surge in applications.

Strong Demand For MHADA Housing

The latest MHADA lottery highlighted the immense demand for affordable housing in Pune. More than 2.15 lakh applicants applied for just 4,186 homes, underlining the widening gap between housing demand and supply in the city.

Officials believe the upcoming March draw will help accommodate more homebuyers, especially those who were unable to secure homes earlier due to intense competition.

For many middle-class families and first-time buyers, MHADA lotteries remain one of the few reliable avenues to purchase homes at relatively affordable prices.

MHADA Expanding Affordable Housing Supply

Over the past two and a half years, MHADA has significantly expanded its affordable housing programmes across Maharashtra. According to official data, the authority has already offered more than 25,000 homes through various housing schemes, targeting different income groups.

Under the leadership of Sanjeev Jaiswal, MHADA has been focusing on increasing the supply of homes specifically for middle-income groups (MIG) and economically weaker sections (EWS).

This strategy aims to address the housing affordability crisis that many cities in Maharashtra are currently facing.

Pune Emerging As A Key Affordable Housing Hub

While Mumbai remains the most expensive property market in the state, Pune has become an important centre for affordable housing initiatives.

Rapid urbanisation, expanding IT hubs, and strong migration have increased demand for homes in Pune, making MHADA’s lotteries extremely competitive.

The upcoming draw will help widen access to affordable housing and may bring relief to thousands of aspiring homeowners who are struggling with rising property prices in the private market.

Transparent Lottery System Builds Public Trust

One of the reasons MHADA lotteries attract massive participation is the transparent and technology-driven application process.

Applicants can register online through the official MHADA portal, submit required documents digitally, and track their application status throughout the process.

The housing allotment is conducted through a computerised lottery system, eliminating middlemen and ensuring fairness for all participants.

This transparent framework has played a crucial role in strengthening public confidence in MHADA’s housing programmes.

Long-Term Vision For Housing In Maharashtra

The Pune lottery is part of a much larger housing strategy being implemented across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and other urban centres in Maharashtra.

Authorities estimate that nearly 2.8 million affordable homes may be developed in the region by 2030, with MHADA playing a key role in achieving that target.

Through partnerships with private developers and redevelopment initiatives, MHADA aims to expand the supply of affordable housing while improving urban infrastructure.

Sanjeev Jaiswal’s Focus On Housing Access

Since taking charge of MHADA, Sanjeev Jaiswal has emphasised scaling up affordable housing while maintaining transparency in allocation.

His leadership has focused on increasing housing supply, streamlining application systems, and ensuring that government housing schemes reach families that need them the most.

With another Pune lottery scheduled before the end of March 2026, MHADA is once again preparing to open the doors of homeownership to thousands of aspiring buyers.

For many families across Maharashtra, the upcoming draw could represent not just a housing opportunity—but a step toward long-term financial stability and urban inclusion.
