Mumbai Campus Expands Global Education Opportunities

The University of Bristol has officially opened its first international campus in Mumbai, marking a major step in its global expansion and strengthening its connection with India’s growing higher education sector.

The new Mumbai Enterprise Campus is located at Cignus Powai, opposite IIT Bombay. The campus has welcomed its first group of students and will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in areas such as data science, finance, fintech and immersive arts.

The campus received approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in June. Its launch supports the broader goals of the National Education Policy 2020, which encourages international universities to create stronger academic and research connections in India.

New Programs Focus on Data Science, Finance and Fintech

The Mumbai Enterprise Campus is currently offering a three-year Bachelor of Science program in data science. Students can also pursue one-year postgraduate programs in finance and investment, financial technology with data science, and immersive arts.

The University of Bristol said the programs are based on its existing academic offerings in Bristol but have been adapted to suit the Indian education and industry environment.

The new campus will also provide opportunities for research, industry collaboration and practical learning. This approach is expected to help students build academic knowledge while gaining exposure to real-world challenges and emerging career opportunities.

University of Bristol Strengthens Its India Presence

University of Bristol Vice-Chancellor and President Evelyn Welch described the Mumbai campus as an important milestone in the university’s long history and its growing engagement with Maharashtra.

The university aims to use the new campus to support research, innovation and knowledge exchange while giving students access to a high-quality Bristol education focused on future opportunities and challenges.

The Mumbai campus also creates a platform for stronger cooperation between the university, Indian institutions, businesses and government bodies.

Scholarships Give Students Additional Opportunities

The campus opening also highlighted the University of Bristol-government of Maharashtra scholarship program. Four scholarship recipients attended the inauguration celebrations.

Under the program, selected students receive a full tuition fee waiver for the entire duration of their studies. They also receive opportunities for internships at the Chief Minister’s Office, giving them valuable exposure to government and public administration.

The first batch of students has also completed a three-week pre-semester program through the Bristol Global Futures Lab. The program included industry-led sessions and experiential learning activities designed to prepare students for their academic journey.

Shanta Gokhale Receives Honorary Degree

The inauguration also featured a special recognition for noted writer, translator, journalist and theater critic Shanta Gokhale.

The University of Bristol conferred an honorary degree on Gokhale during the event. She is a Bristol graduate who completed her studies at the university in 1962.

The opening of the Mumbai Enterprise Campus adds a new international education option for students in India and creates opportunities for academic, research and industry partnerships between India and the United Kingdom.
