Western Railway To Launch New FOB Girders At Marine Lines; Overnight Block To Impact Churchgate Local Services

Sat May 30 2026

Western Railway will carry out a major overnight infrastructure block at Marine Lines station on the night of May 30–31 to launch new Foot Over Bridge girders between Platforms 3 and 4. The operation will temporarily impact several late-night and early-morning Churchgate-bound suburban services, with select trains being short-terminated or originating from Mumbai Central. The upgrade is part of ongoing efforts to improve passenger safety, station infrastructure and commuter movement at one of South Mumbai’s busiest railway stations.

Mumbai: Western Railway will undertake a major overnight infrastructure block at Marine Lines station during the intervening night of May 30 and May 31 to facilitate the launching of new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) girders between Platforms 3 and 4. The operation, aimed at improving passenger safety and station infrastructure, will temporarily affect several late-night and early-morning suburban train services on the Churchgate section.

The work will be carried out using a heavy-duty road crane, requiring a complete block on all railway lines passing through Marine Lines station during the scheduled period.

Several Local Trains To Be Short-Terminated At Mumbai Central

As part of the traffic arrangements, a number of suburban services originating from Virar and Borivali and bound for Churchgate will be short-terminated at Mumbai Central station instead of completing their journey to Churchgate.

Similarly, select early-morning local trains that normally originate from Churchgate will commence their services from Mumbai Central. Train operations between Churchgate and Mumbai Central on these affected services will remain suspended during the block period.

Railway authorities have advised commuters travelling late at night or during the early hours of the morning to verify train schedules before starting their journey.

Last And First Churchgate Services Announced

According to Western Railway, the final local train to reach Churchgate before the commencement of the block will depart Virar at 11:30 PM and arrive at Churchgate at 1:10 AM.

Following the completion of the girder-launching operation, suburban services will resume with the first scheduled fast local departing Churchgate at 4:40 AM, followed by the first slow local service at 4:46 AM.

Officials said every effort is being made to complete the work within the scheduled timeframe and restore normal operations at the earliest.

Infrastructure Upgrade To Improve Passenger Movement

The Foot Over Bridge project forms part of Western Railway's ongoing station modernisation and passenger safety initiatives. Marine Lines, one of South Mumbai's busiest suburban stations, witnesses heavy daily footfall, making enhanced pedestrian infrastructure essential for safer and smoother commuter movement.

The new FOB is expected to improve passenger circulation between platforms and reduce congestion during peak travel hours.

No Daytime Disruptions On May 31

Western Railway has clarified that the maintenance activity is restricted to the overnight period and that no daytime block has been planned on May 31. Regular suburban train services will continue to operate normally throughout the day.

Passengers have been urged to take note of the temporary changes, monitor railway announcements and plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience during the overnight block.
